Times Square Now

Times Square's seedy, sultry, triple X rated commercial tenants has been replaced with the equally obscene advertisements of big bucks corporations. Some may argue that the face lift that Times Square has undergone is and or will eventually become the demise of this vibrant intersection of the city. It is felt that the commercialized, hyper-real atmosphere is a far cry from what Time Square was once known for. However I have to question the difference between Times Square then and Times Square now. In the past Times Square was filled with flashing lights and neon show girl signs, today instead we see flashing LEDs with a sexy silhouette of a Coke-a-Cola bottle or three story tall poster with the perfectly chiseled chest of a Calvin Klein model. Both are tantalizing and both are trying to sell you something. So I ask what is the difference, furthermore is one dead and is one alive? Perhaps there is no difference and instead of asking if it is dead or alive we should be asking, what should we do with the body?
